Castine, Maine

We left Troy, NY for a beautiful drive to Castine, Maine to visit Halley's friend from preschool, Emily, and her boyfriend Wes. They have the cutest freakin' puppy, Dusty, who was very well behaved and enjoyed showing us how he can ring a bell to go outside.

We had fresh mussels before diving into an amazing mac n' cheese n' lobster dinner, complete with beets and goat cheese. Our mouths are watering again just thinking about it! AND THEN Wes made heaven. Something about brownies and it was all gooey in the center. Oh my gosh. We are not worthy.

After breakfast at Bah's, right by the water, we started the journey to the Desert of Maine. Oh my gosh, totally worth the $10.50, which included a tram tour of the desert (with a fantastic photo op from 90 feet up) and access to the museum. The barn that the museum was held in was the barn the original owner brought to its current location via a wagon and horses. The desert actually started as fertile land and gave the owners many years of excellent crops. Unfortunately, they didn't know how to keep the topsoil in good condition and it eventually wasted away, revealing sand. Several years later, it's a full-blown desert.

Since Sarah and I are sick, we decided to skip Portland but went into the Village of Freeport to grab some lunch (not great service and Sarah spilled water) and visit L.L. Bean. It was a very long trek to Syracuse, NY to visit Lynn but we made it by 11pm. Yay!

Heaven.
Being Silly.
Dusty, the most well-behaved puppy we've ever met.
After...a few...tries we got a photo of all four of us!
Kind of couldn't help ourselves.

The Desert of Maine.

How crazy?! Apparently there was a Jeopardy question about the northern most desert in America and when someone answered Maine, Alex replied that the answer was incorrect. After several complaints, the show had the contestant return since he was correct.

This is us being more than slightly immature.

  2. Loved, loved, loved Freeport!! Such a cute town. And don't worry, you definitely didn't miss anything in Portland that you couldn't find in Northeast D.C. Or a gutter.
