Illinois

Remember how Sarah was sick earlier in the trip? Halley's turn. That in a nutshell meant that we did not go into the city of Chicago. I know how awful that makes us but with all the wonderful, thoughtful suggestions we've received for the area, there is no doubt in our minds that we will return for a much longer stay in the future.

Our first (and only) stop in the state was at the World's Largest Corn Maze, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.  This place was beyond awesome. We grabbed some grub and carefully walked up the viewing tower. While the view was incredible the wind, creaking boards and running children were not.

View from the observation deck.

"I know just what I'm doing."

"I don't know what I'm doing."

View from a bridge in the middle of the field.

We did it!

We did it!

A better example of what the maze looked like. We did almost all of the red section and all of the green. There were checkpoints that we had to find and mark down with hole punchers that we had actually been there. Crazy fun.

Sun setting.
After all that fun and excitement, we headed to the hotel which was beyond amazing. We actually had a suite and spent a few minutes running around (remember, we are spending most of our time in a Toyota Corolla-space is a luxury).  We ordered some Chicago deep dish pizza for dinner and let's just say that Pizzeria Uno's and Armand's have absolutely nadda on real deep dish pizza.

The next day was suppose to be spent doing crazy things in Chicago, including lots of eating and walking in parks and on the Navy Pier. But it was not. Room service instead. C'est la vie.

This pizza is all cheese. Very little sauce. Thin bottom crust. Amazing.
